Elementary & Jr. High

St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish is privileged to support you as you help your child grow in love and understanding of God and the richness of our Catholic faith.  Our Faith Formation Program strives to help your child grow in both knowledge and love of God and deeper awareness of the importance of community and service in the life of a Catholic.

Our church teaches that parents are the primary teachers of the faith for their children. Thus, the options we offer for your child’s Faith Formation seek to supplement the essential work you are already doing. Whether you opt for weekly instruction, home schooling, or the summer intensive program, your child still needs the nourishment of Sunday Mass, celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, participation in parish activities, regular involvement in service opportunities, and consistent prayer (such as table grace and bedtime) in the home.

We are always in need of catechists and aides to serve our children and keep our program growing and vibrant.  More catechists also means smaller classes for the children.  Please contact me if you are interested. All volunteers in contact with children must be background checked and attend a Child Abuse Protection Seminar. The parish will reimburse the costs. The Faith Formation fee will be waived for those who volunteer as catechists or aides.

SUMMER INTENSIVE

Our Summer Intensive Faith Formation Option will begin on Sunday June 23 with an afternoon session for parents and children (2:30-and ending with attendance at the 6PM mass). The session will continue through the week (children only): M-W-F- from 8:30-1:30 and Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-3:30PM. The classes will be held in Good Shepherd School.  This option is open to parishioners entering grades 1 through 7. Please note that those children in 2nd grade will also be required to attend separate Sacramental Prep sessions in the fall for First Reconciliation and in the spring for First Eucharist.

This program will cover the same material that is covered in our traditional weekly classes. It will satisfy the class hour requirement for faith formation. Those who choose this option must also commit to attending 6 parish events held September through May. A list of the events will be given to parents in September and they can choose which events to attend. Failure to attend these events will result in a loss of credit for the grade and preclude the child from future summer intensive sessions. Additionally, the absentee policy will be very strict during these summer sessions. Children must commit to attending every day. There will be a very limited allowance for early dismissal and these instances must be approved prior to beginning the program.

Because of the intense time commitment, we will limit the number of children to 12 per classroom (provided we have enough catechists and aides).  We are always in need of volunteers and those who can serve an aide or catechist will have priority for registering their children. Parents who volunteer for the entire session will have their Faith Formation fees waived. Families who participated in last year’s program and who have completed the intergenerational event requirement will also receive preference for the program.

PLEASE NOTE: THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THE SUMMER OPTION WILL BE May 1.  IF THE REGISTRATION NUMBERS EXCEEDS OUR CAPACITY, WE WILL PLACE NAMES IN A LOTTERY.

HOME SCHOOL

This model offers parents an opportunity to participate more fully in their child’s faith formation. Parents receive the home school lesson plans and work with their child each week. Parents attend 4 parent sessions during the course of the year. They receive upcoming lesson plans, submit assessment and review sheets from their child’s work, and participate in formation regarding the unit themes of the program. Families who opt for this model must commit to attending 6 parish intergenerational events held September through May. A list of the events will be given in September and parents can choose which events to attend.

This option is open to parishioners entering grades 1 through 7. Please note that those children in 2nd grade will also be required to attend separate Sacramental Prep sessions in the fall for First Reconciliation and in the spring for First Eucharist.

ELEMENTARY FAITH FORMATION CATECHISTS

Want to make a difference in the lives of our parish children?
The rewards gained from guiding our children and youth through their religious education are priceless. Whether committing to teaching a weekly class or signing on to help with a one-time event, every experience is a positive one. It takes a whole community of believers to prepare the children and youth of today for becoming the Catholic adults of tomorrow. We have openings in many of the grades on both Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons.

Confirmation Preparation

7th & 8th Grade:

St. Teresa of Calcutta Confirmation Prep involves a two year process which usually begins in 7th Grade. Most junior high children are confirmed in the spring of their 8th grade year.  This is an exciting time and a wonderful opportunity for them to deepen their understanding of the call to discipleship.  BTC Faith Formation seeks to develop their discipleship by emphasizing participation in the sacraments and service to the community.

Candidates for Confirmation must attend two full years of Confirmation Prep.

High School

Many times high school age students have not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation. We offer separate sessions for these students. Call the parish office for more information.

First Reconciliation & First Communion

First Reconciliation

Our celebration of First Reconciliation takes place in November. Children prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to the reception of First Eucharist by attending Faith Formation classes, working at home with their parents and attending a retreat prior to First Reconciliation. Children are eligible to prepare for the sacrament of Reconciliation when they have completed a full year of faith formation.

First Eucharist

St. Teresa of Calcutta celebrated First Eucharist as a parish community at some of the regularly scheduled Sunday Masses during May.  Families are able to pick which mass works best for their schedule. The preparation for First Eucharist involves Faith Formation classes, work at home with parents, and parent/child workshops.  Children are eligible to prepare for 1st Eucharist when they have completed a full year of faith formation and have celebrated 1st Reconciliation.

Our Vacation Bible School is usually held on weekday evenings in early July. This week is filled with activities, crafts, games, and songs that help children to understand God’s love and care for them. The week is open to children Grades PK4 to 6th. Older children are encouraged to volunteer as aides.
